Forelock Safety Bow — Give Space From the Front

A red bow worn in the forelock signals that a horse or pony may be horse-shy or reactive to oncoming traffic.

Some horses become stressed, claustrophobic, defensive or reactive when another horse approaches too closely or directly head-on. In certain cases, a horse may also lunge or attempt to bite at horses passing too closely.

The forelock bow gives other riders a clear visual warning to allow additional space when approaching or passing from the front.

When you see a horse wearing a red forelock bow:

• Give the horse additional space.
• Avoid crowding when passing.
• Allow a wider berth when passing shoulder-to-shoulder.
